Red Will Never Go Out Of Style
Red is full of emotion, its power, love, anger, attention, passion, demand – all in one. To quote, Pop-singer; Taylor Swift, whom aptly has an album titled ‘Red’, it will “Never go out of style”.
It come in variety of hues - from the deepest crimsons to the brightest cherries - that are guaranteed to flatter every woman’s skin tone.
“We associate the colour red to passion and love” says ex Stylist trend forecaster, Adina Nicole. The colour red is loved worldwide for its unique combination of boldness, strength, and self-assured sexiness. The colour red also demands attention.
The colour evokes eighties vibes as Nicole says, “that what the eighties were all about, women empowerment. Women were entering the workforce and having to look classy and taking a lot of inspiration from their outfits, from the male equivalent, with the tailored suits.”
Red is a shade that will always remain a classic and unequivocally chic. Red is a colour that is always on trend but has the ability to reinvent itself in new ways. As Adina Nicole suggest – a reinvention of a trend will always be paired with something else, it will never just come back on its own. Red is also the colour of glamour and sophistication; its often found in a classy outfit; whether it’s a finishing touch in the makeup or a simple accessory to complete an outfit or even part of an outfit itself like the power suit. Although we see red as such a festive colour became of the time of the year, we are still seeing red in some brands Spring/Summer 2024 collection such as Sacai, Calvin Lou, and Erl.
Nicole is also a fashion designer and have also used the colour red frequently in her recent collection. She was inspired by her Romanian heritage, and was also inspired by sexuality, spirituality and religion. Nicole explained that paradox between wanting to belong and being proud from where you come from, but also “challenging your origin”. Her research was about the traditional practices in Romania, how her country is religious and still maintain a lot of the rituals used. She wanted to be able to challenge that narrative.
Why red in Nicole’s recent collection? The designer clarified that red is a very powerful colour in Romanian culture. You can see it in a lot of embroideries. In her collection, Adina has upcycled some fabrics that her great grandmother has left as heirloom and was able to include them in her work. She also commented, “All the embroidery that you see, and weaving, they’re made by my great grandmother, and on top of that, I also used symbol, the symbol of Martisor is called in Romania.” Martisor is celebrated in March and the name is associated with a white and red threads to symbolise coming of spring and renewal and “welcoming the fertility that springs comes with”, she added.
Now you know all about why red is such an excellent colour to wear and the many meanings behind it. Let’s now dive in how we may want to incorporate it into our everyday outfit.
